PCR for Detection of Meningitis Pathogens
This PCR video was produced in 2021 by CDC Bacterial Meningitis Laboratory (BML) and Firstline and distributed as readily available training materials for the diagnosis of bacterial meningitis.
This video reviews the triplex direct real-time PCR (drt-PCR) assay conducted on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens for species identification of common bacterial pathogens that can cause invasive disease, including meningitis: Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis and Streptococcus pneumoniae (T-HNS assay). This video also covers genogrouping assays to determine six invasive N. meningitidis serogroups (A, B, C, W, X and Y; T-AWX and T-BCY assays).
This video demonstrates motor and background calibration processes for the AriaMx PCR instrument.
